Concrete is cheaper up front. Pavers cost more but do not crack across the middle, and a section can be lifted and reset if a root shows up.

Will weeds come up through the joints?

Polymeric sand holds the joints shut. Anything that shows up is seed landing on top, not growing through, so it pulls easily.

Does a patio need a slope?

Yes, a slight fall away from the house. It is small enough that you will not notice it standing on it.
